Job Description

General Summary: Under general supervision, the State Inspection Technician performs State vehicle safety inspections tests per state and/or federal regulations. CarMax is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to creating a workplace where your career can thrive.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform state inspections using appropriate equipment and adhering to prescribed rules, standards and procedures
  2. Ensure that all vehicles meet CarMax Final Quality Standards
  3. Provide outstanding customer service at all times
  4. Maintain, repair, and clean special equipment
  5. Work with and through associates of other departments within the store
  6. Perform additional duties in a high-energy, fast-paced working environment as requested by supervisor
  7. Comply with CarMax, O.S.H.A., and EPA policies

Working Conditions: Combination of both indoor and outdoor environment; may include working in noisy and/or inclement weather conditions. May require walking or standing for an extended time. Variable work schedules with shifts that may include nights, weekends, holidays and extended hour days.

Benefits: Full-time associates receive up to 48 hours of paid sick time per year, 80-200 hours of vacation time per year (after 90-day waiting period), and 6 paid scheduled holidays plus 1 floating holiday annually. Holiday Premium Pay available if working on scheduled holidays.

Note: Only external candidates qualify for the sign-on bonus.

Requirements
  1. 2-year automotive trade school degree OR minimum 2 years of automotive experience
  2. Appropriate state inspection certification required
  3. Ability to read, interpret and transcribe data to maintain accurate records
  4. Above-average attention to detail with demonstrated manual dexterity in both arms and hands
  5. Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs
  6. Ability to speak and listen effectively to customers, associates and managers in person, by phone, and/or by radio
  7. Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
  8. Compliance with all CarMax, O.S.H.A., and EPA policies
  9. Adherence to CarMax policies including attendance, proper time recording, asset protection, and professional appearance standards
  10. Ability to work variable schedules including nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours
