I made $800/month tutoring high school math in my first 60 days

After graduating from college and finding a part-time job, I wanted to explore side gigs to earn more money. That's when I stumbled on Varsity Tutors - an online tutoring platform and decided to try it out.
For the first year, I barely had any students, and the income wasn't very consistent or reliable, but positive reviews from current students helped me attract a wide variety of students. I primarily tutored math, writing, and science, from elementary school through college-level algebra. When I started on the platform, I was earning $15/hr, but after a lot of experience I am now up to $22.50/hr.
The main drawback of the side hustle was working around students' schedules in America, which meant students were sometimes only available early in the morning on the West Coast during typical working hours and other times quite late in the evening after school. Another hurdle is that when school stops during the summer for most, the number of students can go up and down based on the supply and demand of tutors and students alike, so income is not reliable despite the flexibility to work and take opportunities you are interested in.
Right now, I continue to do this side hustle. During the peak fall/spring season, I usually juggle around 3-5 students per week on average, while during the summer it can drop anywhere between 0-3 students a week. I would recommend this side hustle as it has a lot of flexibility, can be done at home, and, depending on your skill set, does not require a lot of additional prep work outside of communicating with students/parents about the need for the sessions and ensuring you understand the material.
